Cotswold Caper - our main fundraising event of the year! |
|
Normal monthly meeting |
|
This is an all-inclusive event for Members as well as for their family and friends. The idea is that we have a family orientated, social event which also includes the opportunity to do a run.
ALL cars arriving for the picnic and the run MUST have a Teddy on board! All cars not carrying a Teddy will have to donate their picnic to the Steve Wood Food Parcel Fund!
The run is optional and so anyone can attend the picnic without doing the run.
Picnic Venue: Minchinhampton Common, on the approach road to The Old Lodge and
Minchinhampton Old Course Golf Club. The post code for The Old Lodge is
GL6 9AQ and the Grid Ref. is SO 855 009.
Turn in at the purple “The Old Lodge” sign.
Picnic Start Time: Around 1300 and will finish when everyone gets bored / cold / wet.
The Run Details: The start this year will be from Barrow Wake Viewpoint.
This is the viewpoint which is accessed from the Birdlip to the A417 road.
It is NOT the Crickley Hill Country Park!
Cars away from 1100 - 1130.
The run is approx. 25 miles long and will take about 1.5 hours to complete.
EVERYONE is very welcome to do the run no matter what they are driving. For those who are unfamiliar with tulip diagrams, a full explanation will be given at the start.

If you fancy a 40 mile summer’s day drive around the heart of the Forest of Dean this is the run for you.
We will be setting off after morning coffee at The Hostelrie in the village of Goodrich and following a tulip route through the heart of the forest to finish up at the Dean Herritage Centre at the top of the Sudley Valley. Here you can enjoy your picnic lunch or use the café before exploring the Centre which is one of Gloucestershire's leading attractions. Set across a stunning and fully interactive five acre site, the centre protects and preserves the unique history and heritage of the beautiful Forest of Dean. With a wide range of things to do and see, including five onsite galleries exploring the history of the Forest from the Ice Age to the present day; a reconstructed Victorian cottage; a charcoal burner's camp; an adventure playground; chainsaw carving demonstrations; a variety of animals, an onsite gift shop and cafe there's always something new and exciting to interest, inspire and surprise you.
Why not make a weekend of it and stay overnight on the Saturday at The Hostelrie which is a genuine village inn with an excellent restaurant. The Hostelrie is very classic car friendly and is in fact the venue for MG natters on the second Monday evening of every month.
You would be spoilt for a choice of things to do on the Saturday, there is Goodrich Castle to explore free to English Heritage members or you could take the short drive to Symonds Yat and enjoy a pint in the Saracens Head sitting on the banks of the river Wye. Here you can take a pleasure boat ride up the river or if you felt a bit more energetic there is an excellent walk along the river over the suspension bridge at the Biblins then back along the river to hail the ferry to cross back over to the Saracens Head. If all this fails to grab you then take a visit to “Puzzle Wood” my favorite, an unforgettable experience.

We are organising a trip to the newly revamped Haynes Motor Museum in Somerset.
As a group we can get discounted tickets at £7 with the ability to go any time for as many times as we would like for the next year. We have chosen this month as the new extension will have been done and we can see alot more cars that they will have on show.
As part of this there is a very nice pub with great food nearby and we have negotiated a rate of £70 per room per night if we stay the Friday and Saturday nights or £80 if we stay just the Saturday night. The rate includes breakfast.
The pub is also putting on a set price three course meal at £17 should we like to take it up
If you would like to go please Email me |

Cotswold Motoring Museum
As a club we will be going to the Cotswold Motoring Museum in Bourton on the Water. There will be space available for about 9 cars on the front of the Museum with preference being given for elder cars. There is an overflow car park where the remainder can go at a cost of approximately £3 per day
We will need to be there by about 10am and can stay until 6pm if we want although I suspect we will be long gone by then
A group rate for entry into the Museum has been agreed at £3.90.
There will also be a room available for us to use should it be wanted
Unfortunately because of the reduced space it will have to be first come first served. So if you want be included in the 9 please email me urgently at secretary@glosmgoc.co.uk
For the "unlucky" ones we will organise the fallback space once names are known
You can see the last time we went there at Bourton Picnic |
