Our Fifth Cotswold Caper

July 4th 2010

It had taken both John and Graham many trips into South Gloucestershire before they eventually found a route they considered suitable. However, panic ensued 2 days before the run the council decided to close a road on the day. Off they went again and found an alternative route. More printing then adding the amendments to the already prepared route guides and hoping for no more route closures.

The event started from St Roses Special needs school in Stroud who are this years main recipients. The staff and parents kindly laid on Bacon butties and tea and coffee for the entrants. The run was started by Mrs Billington the Headmistress ably assisted by car mad Ryan, one of the schools pupils. Our girls all worked well and those on the raffle did a sterling job in selling raffle tickets for our again super raffle. The raffle raised over £900. Well done to all our girls.

120 cars left the start to wend their way through beautiful Cotswold countryside passing through lovely olde worldy villages including Castle Combe where the Doctor Doolittle film was made. We had earmarked many hostelries for food and liquid refreshments. Many seemed to hold some entrants for long lunch stops but they all eventually arrived at the finish at the "park Hotel" at Falfield near Bristol where cream teas and drinks were available. After checking to see if they had won a prize in the raffle the cars left. some for the drive home and others back to their hotels for a well deserved rest.

There were 5 breakdowns this year but all were dealt with by our breakdown service and our club sweeper up.

Thanks to all those who supported us and remember book early for the Cotswold Caper 2011 on the 3rd July. One hotel already has 12 rooms booked for friends from away coming.
