Brecon Beacons Run

24th September 2018

As I am still at work, I find it difficult to take part in our evening Club runs so when I saw the Swansea MG Enthusiasts run advertised on a Sunday, I thought it would be a great opportunity to give my MGF a good run.

Sally and I travelled down to Swansea, Friday afternoon so we could spend all Saturday exploring. Our B&B provided us with a fantastic breakfast and we set out on Saturday morning in glorious sunshine to visit the National Trust property of Dinefwr. Very interesting house and well worth the visit.

Sunday morning was unfortunately cloudy & overcast with a little rain in the air. We arrived at the start in Ammanford to find the usual assortment of MG’s plus a handful of other makes joining us. We were welcomed by organiser Carol and soon had our road book secured so we walked round the carpark and viewed the collection of other cars. We smiled at the Lotus 7 parked with an umbrella over the occupants.

Leaving the start we gradually gained altitude and by the time we crossed the cattle grid into the Beacons it was increasingly misty and raining. I expect there were some fantastic views but this morning all we had was sheep and rain. A lot of sheep.

Fortunately as the morning went on, things improved and we arrived at the lake in Llandrindod Wells in dry and bright conditions. After a coffee,( couldn’t face eating after such a great breakfast), we set off again through the winding Welsh countryside, overtaken by an impatient Ferrari and his mate in a Lotus who later we passed as they were parked chatting. By mid-afternoon we arrived at the finish at the Dan-Yr-Ogof Caves. We were unlucky in the raffle but chatted to several other Swansea members who all were very friendly. One chap had 5 MG’s. When I asked why, he said it just creeps up on you. Lovely day and nice people. Shame about the weather.
