Coffee & Classics.

June 2018.

It dawned sunny and warm for the Club’s second visit to the Classic Motor Hub’s Coffee & Classic meeting. This event is put on by the Hub on the first Sunday of the month during the summer and involves them displaying the cars they have for sale as well as allowing you the chance to look at some of the cars that are stored by them on behalf of their clients. By encouraging visitors to bring along their own classics they also create an interesting and eclectic collection of cars in the car park.
Having all met up in Cirencester, we convoyed to the Hub at Ablington and their marshals kindly lined us all up together. As we were getting out of our cars a vintage biplane started to do aerobatics over us, finishing with a wing-waggling fly past. A great welcome!

Once bacon butties were eaten, caffeine levels topped up and cheque books hidden away, we made our way around the amazing collection of vintage, classic and modern exotica displayed in the hangers and large garages that make up Classic Motor Hub site.

The cars of interest are too many to mention but the €15 million price of a specially built 1938 Le mans 8½ litre Bentley spring to mind. When members were asked which car of their choice would they drive away, it was interesting to note that almost all chose different cars – a reflection of the variety and appeal of the machinery on display.

Having done us proud last year, we again chose to have our lunch at the Inn for All Seasons and they did not let us down. Their newly laid out car park was reserved exclusively for us and this allowed us direct access into the re-furbished conservatory. The food was duly produced at the allotted time and our thanks were given to the staff for their organisation and for making us so welcome.

I think the event proved a great success and will probably be repeated next year – let’s hope the wall to wall sunshine can also be repeated!
