Cotswold Airport Open Day

30th September

Early morning in Cirencester, and 8 cars gathered ready for the short journey to Kemble airfield for the inaugural Vintage and Wartime rally being held there.

We were marshalled quickly to our position in the line-up and were parked after a little manual manipulation of Trev’s B, which decided it didn’t want to go any further! Thankfully, this proved to be nothing more than a bad earth.

We set to on the gazebo and, considering the number of willing hands, we all worked together and got it erected in no time, along with the flags.

There was plenty to see, including lots of people dressed up in vintage outfits – we even saw Winston Churchill at one stage! We were within listening distance of a singer singing lots of the old-time songs and many people in costume were doing the jitterbug and other dances to many of the them.

Also, nearby was one of the 747 jumbo jets that had come to Kemble to be broken up. However, before that happens it was opened so the public could have a look inside. All day, there was a constant queue of people waiting to get aboard and have a look round.

We had several people take a look at our cars throughout the day and several bits of advice passed on and we even signed up a new member!

All in all a very enjoyable day and the rain held off, even though it was a bit blustery at times.
There will be a 2-day event next year, which promises to be even better, so we could well be returning.
