COFFEE & CLASSICS

SUNDAY 3RD SEPTEMBER 2017

Eleven cars gathered in a wet and grey Cirencester before the short trip to the Classic Car Hub which is based in several large buildings and a blister hanger on the old Second World War airfield near Bibury.

On arrival, we were shepherded to the parking area before the obligatory coffee and bacon rolls were purchased from the refreshment outlets and concessions that get invited to the Coffee & Classic events.

Now fully sustained, it was time to wander around the wonderful display of vintage, veteran, classic and exotica machinery that Martin Chisholm and his team had on display. Those cars that were for sale helpfully had descriptions and prices on their windscreens so that we could all marvel at their rarity and wow factor, not to mention the wishful thinking.

One of the buildings contained several wonderful cars all apparently belonging to one owner who stores his cars at the Hub. Following a conversation with a member of staff, we discovered that the Delage was valued at an eye watering £16m and a lovely, very rare Ferrari was worth £6m......and these were only two of the cars in the collection!

In due course, and after much ooohing and aaahing, we climbed back into our very modest (but much loved) MG’s and headed off for our lunch. I had to change the lunch venue at the last moment to the Inn for All Seasons and they did us proud. A couple of members were so impressed they were planning return visits and one is threatening to organise a run next summer which will finish there.
The event proved very popular and it was unanimously agreed to repeat a Coffee & Classics run next summer, and so possible future dates will be discussed at the next Club meeting.
