Tony and Janes Fish and Chip Cruise

14th September 2014

Many people were looking forward to this cruise (or the Fish and Chips) for some time and everyone arrived at Greasey Joes complete with appetite. There were ten cars going and they were almost all assembled ready for the run Tony had organized to get to Lechlade

It was a short run up to the boat but a pretty one. Starting in Ciren we set off in high hopes of a nice meal at the end. Of toward Driffield and then through Ampney Crucis. Then on to Coln St Aldwyns and finally off to Lechlade where Tony and Jane were waiting. Soon all the cars were there and all twenty of us were ready for our watery adventure.

Once we boarded the narrow boat it was not long before the off. Soon we were chugging toward the first lock, but, before then, I had to test my prowess at steering the boat. Once at the blunt end of the boat I took my place at the tiller and was able to navigate the upper reaches of the Thames to reach the Lechlade lock.

It was an interesting process to go through the lock with the statue of Old Father Thames looking on. Even more interesting was the fact the Fish and Chips were being delivered. Soon there was a hush over the boat as everyone tucked in to what, it must be said, was a really nice meal.

Off up the Thames at a sedate pace as the evening drew in. Past some lovely views and even a couple of World War 2 pill boxes still on guard after all this time. Eventually the cruise reached its destination and we turned around ready for the trip back.

Thanks to Tony and Jane for organizing a nice end of Summer treat
