Richard Wards Run

June 25th 2013

Our most recent run was organised by Richard and started in Badgeworth Lane between Brockworth and Cheltenham. After a slow start to members signing up to the run we ended up with 21 cars at the start and a nother which sadly broke down on the way.

Richard called the run Cotswold perspectives and the cars set off on a beautiful summer evening to follow a route up and down the western cotswold escarpment. The first village reached was Leckhampton and the cars then climbed to the top of Leckhampton hill and then on to the Kilkenny inn where we turned off towards Dowdeswell and on to the A40 which was crossed into Whittington village. We then travelled on to the top of Cleeve hill, turning down into Brockhampton. Here we moved on towards Winchcombe and Richard found the road to be blocked by roadworks on the previous evening. He spoke to the contractors who assured him that the road would re-open at 5p.m. on the evening of the run. They were as good as their word and smooth progress was made on the newly surfaced road. Arriving at Winchcombe the route took us next to Gretton and from thence to Prescott hillclimb. Just past this location we turned down to Dixton and on to Alstone and Teddington. The cars then headed briefly back towards Cheltenham before turning towards Treddington and Stoke Orchard. At the edge of this last village we turned rigt for the short run down to the finish at the Gloucester Old Spot pub.

At this pub we had the dining room almost to ourselves and all enjoyed a pleasant meal in good company with our beautiful M.G.s parked outside. The run presented some magnificent views of the north of the county, reminding us all how fortunate we are to be able to enjoy our M.G.s in such perfect countryside.
