Visit to MG Factory

24th January 2013

While we were up at the Llandudno run last year Philip was approached to see if our club would like a trip around the MG factory at Longbridge. It was a foregone conclusion that it was going to be a popular event so a trip was organised. Unfortunately there was a long waiting time so a trip in January was agreed, this was before we knew about all the snow..

Someone suggested a coach trip would make life simpler and Mike Hall kindly volunteered to sort it out. The coach was ordered and all was set for the big day except a little matter of six inches of snow. After checking on the weather it was decided it was a go.

So twenty intrepid souls got on the coach and were soon at Longbridge. So easy was the going we arrived an hour early and had time to eat something before the tour. Some had brought food with them, others availed themselves of the works canteen.

The tour started at one with the news that unfortunately a trip to the assembly line was not on. This was a disappointment to us all as that was the main point of the trip. Our disappointment was short lived once we were ushered into the meeting room for the presentation. Our presenter was both personable and very knowledgable and communicated his enthusiasm infectiously.

After the presentation we were treated to a visit to Lord Austins office and also the private car museum on site. From there we visited the design office and saw where its all happening. We were especially impressed by the 3D printer.

Our presenter invited us back to the site once a visit to the assembly line can be offered

A short trip back and it was all over. The coach experiment really worked and a good day was held by all.............
