Mike Pollocks 2012 Run

25th September 2012

Thanks to all that attended the last evening run of 2012,the weather was not its kindest with a few sharp showers and a chilly breeze.

For members that have never organised a run I can tell you this was the most nerve racking I have ever done!

On checking the route 2 weeks before I found the Highways department had decided to close one of the lanes!!!! So a revamp hastily took place, then when doing the final check on the Friday before the event the swines had closed another road for resurfacing!! So a complete re route hastilly took place, but as I had no chance to check it before the night of the run & I appologise if the mileages were not accurate.
We got the senior citizens away at 5:45 as they did,nt want to be late for bed. Slowly but surely alll who booked arrived at the start (Including a vauxhall & a Mitsubishi!! The Nerve of some members!!)  & were  sent on there way. As darkness began to fall it soon became apparent that Eddie & Diana had problems with speedo failure & malfuntioning dasboard lights, but they eventually  made it to the finish. The route took the cars out of Gloucester onto the A417 turning on to the back lanes of Maismore & then the customary loop meandering past Hartpury Church & College. We then proceeded through Ashleworth,Corse & Gadfield Elm onto Eldersfield, then Chaceley & finally reaching the Coal House Inn at Apperley where we all had a good nosh up & a few beverages.
The landlord was quite concerned about the rising water levels of the river, but luckily we all left sound & dry, I would like to thank Steve & his team for opening just for us that night,it was greatly appreciated.

I would also like to thank members Christine & Richard Pates for taking photos of the cars on route.

Mike Pollock.
