Llandudno Run

19th August 2012

When we at the meal after the Caper someone said wouldnt it be great to go Llandudno and do the Snowdon run this year. Before you knew it we were up to seven cars for the run. Paul Pickering kindly booked the Travelodge and also organised a place to eat on the Saturday night before the run.

That just left the run up. It was a case of all going our own wat to get to Mold as most wanted to visit different places on the way up. Eddie and I did our own convoy and ended up dropping off at Ludlow for coffee, There was a delightful market there and after a coffee and doughnut we hit the road and headed for Shrewsbury where lunch awaited. Little did we know that John and Paul were alse near Ludlow at the time

Shrewsbury was a really nice towm even though we had to look fairly hard to find a parking place. We had a leisurely stroll around the area and then settled down to a spot of lunch. There are some really nice timber framed buildings in both towns, Ludlow and Shrewsbury. Fortified we set off for the far north (of Wales). We headed up to Llangollen to see the railway and then headed on to the Horseshoe pass. This is a truly lovely run up through the Ruabon mountains.

After booking into the Travelodge out limo Paul had organised was ready to take us to the pub. As usual we managed to make more noise than our neighbours as we progressed through the meal. The meal itself was really good value for money most of us decided to go back the following night.

We all started off early heading for the Promenade at Llandudno eager for the obligatory bacon rolls. After the registration and the rolls it was the off. As usual we heading along the Great Orme and through to Conwy Castle. From there we saw various places such as Llanberis where you can catch the train to the top of Sn owdon. Onto Beddgelert a very pretty village in the National Park. It was a great run and we finished the first half at the Glaslyn Osprey centre for a well deserved coffee and carrot cake. On through the Snowdonia Park until we passed over the Menai Stright and Brunels Bridge into Anglesey. We ended up at Plas Newydd but unfortunately too late to go round the house. From here we drove back to the Travelodge by going down the coast road just in time to get to the pub for meal

Monday dawned and it was off to Ruthin for breakfast where we met Geoff and Mandy in their hotel much to the surprise of us all. A quick stroll into a quaint little town and we bump into Brian and Teresa. From there we headed toward Rhos y Galia and onto Lake Vernwy. This area is a fantastic area for views and great roads. After stopping for a coffee we meet Mandy and Geoff again!

A long drive south to Abergwesyn Pass in the Cambrian mountains, an old drovers pass. After negotiating all the hairpins and blind hills it was off home for tea (or supper)!
