The lucky members who attended were :-
John & Mo, Graham & Joyce, Brian & Lynn, Tony & Jane, Paul & Pat, Rob & Julia
Six cars from our Club attended, with five taking all the rooms in the small hotel in Llanfair Caerinion. Four cars started on Saturday from the Longford and we joined Paul and Pat at Bromfield on the A49 at the Ludlow Food Centre, excellent venue for refreshments. Rob and Julia stayed at another hotel “nearby,” probably the next village 10 miles away. The evening meal, in fact all meals were excellent, value, quality and service.
I consider this was one of the best runs we have been on. The weather was very sunny with just a cool breeze – perfect hood down weather. We started in Llanfair Caerinion and after several miles of narrow dusty farm-yard country lanes, good job it was dry, arrived at Lake Vyrnwy where we stopped for coffee. From here we entered the Welsh mountain countryside and what splendid views there were, if you dared to take your eyes off the twisty “alpine type” roads. Official halfway stop was at King Arthurs Labyrinth at Corris. Here was plenty of parking spaces and a good cafe.
Second half was good but not as good as the first, that will take some beating. We journeyed around the southern part of the mountains and approached the finish at the start village of Lanfair Caerinion at the Railway Station, a total distance of 97 miles
It is not fair to report the misdemeanours that occurred in the hotel, “what goes on tour, stays on tour”, but sufficient to say, we all enjoyed ourselves and I certainly will do the Dragon Run again next year.
Many thanks go to Graham who made the hotel arrangements and beat other MGOC clubs to the booking and for the route details to Llanfair Caerinion, via Bromfield and Welshpool where we had lunch in the local cinema.
Any spelling mistakes can be brought to my attention by only truly born Welsh persons !!
