Skittles January 2009

With the impending match against the Cotswold Classic Car club we arranged yet another Skittles evening. We were wondering if the snow would allow us to have our fun as there were big snow drifts locally just a few days before. Still, all was well and the snow went on cue. Twenty six people turned up to try their hand and get some practice in before the event. We all met in the bar where it was warm and coincidently near the beer. Still, the time eventually came when we needed to see how good we were.

I managed to start the evening off with the first ball - only three pins. This was an achievement I was not to emulate again in the evening. We all had a go as the winner was to take the pot - a massive £2.20 so we were all bowling for the big bucks. Our main concern was that if we won would we have to turn professional!

After that match the excitement demanded food which provided in traditional (plastic) baskets. That eaten we were to move on to a game of killer. If you didn't knock a pin down you lost a life. Again, another big pot of £2.00 . There was many a loss of lives once down to one pin. It took Neil to rescue us by knocking it over. It was only then he told us he goes skittling regularly. It was evident that he was going to win the pot as a semi pro but we still had to persevere.

It soon became clear that a hero was emerging to take on this denizen of the alleys. It was his son, Sam. Sam went on to win the pot as can be seen from the photo. What a turn up. I wonder if he available to play against the CCCC?

Again a great evening was had by all with the noise level demonstrating the fact that we had not seen each other since last year. Still on this performance I don't think they will be worried. Still better luck next month
