Report on the MG CAR CLUB run on Sunday 6th April 2008

Who said us MG owners were Bonkers ?? When I got out of bed this Sunday morning and looked out of the bedroom window;  what was there ? the garden, fields and hedges all covered in 2 to 3 inches of snow --- but the roads and pavements were clear Yes, we have entered todays run. And we DID go. I met up with Graham and excepting for one four wheel slide we had an uneventful drive to the start at Millets Garden Centre near Abingdon.

We booked in and was very pleasantly surprised to find that there were six of us from our Club, although one of us did try to enter by paying with a rubber cheque !! The entry of 95 was somewhat weakened by only 45 turning up: so it is true , not all MG owners are bonkers.
The 75 mile run skirted round Witney, up to Churchill, to Stow on the Wold, round Chipping Norton and finishing north at Broughton Castle just west of Banbury. It was certainly a different run --- instead of admiring the green scenery with the buds of spring ready to burst into blossom, we instead enjoyed the snow covered trees , hedges and fields, just as I witnessed when I first looked out my bedroom window.Even passed a couple of families sledging on the slopes and do you know, there were no hold-ups due to traffic !!Next year the run should be called the MGB COTSWOLD WINTER RUN. An improvement this time, only made two navigational errors.

We stopped in Stow where we had an indoor cup of hot char but one unlucky person was locked out in the cold in the cafe back garden toilets; we know who the culprit was and Joyce will be repaid !
We even had a MG picnic out in the snow but stood up and not on the ground --- we are chicken. On arrival at Broughton Castle, no sooner had we parked the cars, it snowed, not for too long but there was one brave soul who had driven round with his hood down and was last seen running to his car to stop a snow-filled interior.
It was a good run, different, but enjoyable. Now all I have to do is clean the car, get rid of the salt and hope we do not have such weather on our Cotswold Caper on the 8th June --- mind you we did have floods about this time last year !!
